Sculpture Center Reaction
While visiting the Sculpture Center I was surprised how different this museum was. The way the artworks were placed and portrayed interested me the most. Also the lighting and the way the artwork complemented the space it was given.
The first artwork that stood out to me was "Joia Do Orixa" by Sanford Biggers. This artpiece was a big red sculpture with a straw type dress. Also surrounding the sculpture was a red and white stripe see through cloth with glitter on it. The reason why this stuck with me is because as soon as you walked inside the museum it pops out to you. I believe the placement of the statue, color and size of the sculpture are the traits that mainly made the sculpture pop out to me. Another artwork that caught my attention is "Teenager In Love" by Rona Yefman. It basically was a video of a young women tattooing herself and talking about her past relationships. The display was in the basement of the museum and was surrounded by blue lights. To me the video surrounding suited the content playing on the video. It had that dark night inner city feel to it.
Last artwork that I found interesting was another video titled ''Dame of the World''. This documentary was basically about an old women talking about her past and the troubles she went through being in the tattoo world. This documentary was showing on a big screen that was in the basement of the museum. There was no light in the room only, the light that reflected from the screen. I believe that if this display was moved to a smaller room, you would not get the same effect.

Design in Our Lives Reaction
In the world we live in today everyone uses electronics and gadgets in there daily lives. After going to MoMa museum in Manhattan, I saw many electronics gadgets. Also I spotted two high functionality objects and two low functionality objects.
The first functional object i spotted was titled My Block NYC.com. This object was on a big touch screen. It made the user get to zoom in to anywhere in New York City and also described the area. Some places on the map were you can zoom in even had videos of the actually block . I believe the product had a nice sleek design. I believe that if this product was located all over the city in parks, subways and street corners it will be easier for tourists to get around the city. The other product I found interesting is the SMS slingshot by Christina Zollner, Patrick Fischer, Thilio Hoffman, and Sebastian Piatza. This invention was different from your normal slingshot. It had a small keyboard and screen on the actual slingshot. The purpose of this invention you can type in words into the slingshot then aim it and release. Then it leaves a digital splatter with the words you typed into the slingshot. I believe the SMS slingshot will be fun for all ages and it's design is quick to learn.
There were two products that I saw, that I felt would be low functional. The first product I saw that was kiw functional, was the Talk to Your self Hat by Kate Hartman in 2006. Basically it is a hat and has a speaker covered in cloth that is connected to your hear. The purpose of this device is so you can grab the speaker and talk to yourself. I find this object not functional because why would someone need this product just to speak to themselves. The other object I found low functional is the Muttering Hat also by Kate Hartman. It is also a hat that you put over your head but instead of speaking into a speaker, the hat has two speakers that are connected to the hat that plays pre recorded mutter to you. Both of these objects are low functional to me because I don't see people using these objects in their day to day lives. You do not need to get a hat just to talk to yourself. If you want to hear muttering just download some muttering and listen to it on your iPod not through a hat.
As you can see after my trip to the MoMa and seeing all the art on display. The SMS slingshot and MyBlockNYC.com were the two that made sense to me and also the two displays that would be useful to the public. Kate Hartman's Muttering Hat and Talk to Yourself Hat made the least sense to me and how the public would benefit from the actual product.

Field Trip #1 Reaction
This year has marked the 10th anniversary of the tragic attacks that happened on September 11, 2001. When these attacks happened I can remember exactly were and what I was doing. I was in my fourth grade class learning about something. All sudden the kids in the back were pointing to window saying, that smoke was coming out of two buildings. Then an announcement came on saying that two airplanes had hit the world trade center buildings. After that all the kids in the class rushed to the window and watched the building burn from the windows. The teacher then sat all the kids down and parents then started picking up their children from school.After September 11, 2001 many things have changed for the better and worse. One thing that have changed is that airport security has become more stricter and in some case more stressful. Also after 9.11 some Muslims have even been discriminated by others.
First piece of art that jumped out was a painting by the name of "3.01.2001" by Todd Stone. This painting was showing one of the twin towers right after one of the planes went into it. The artist also uses many shades of grey to depict the smoke and the color of the tower. The reason why i picked this artwork is because it reminded me of all the smoke I saw coming from the towers of September 11 from my classroom window, newspapers, and on TV.
Another artwork I chose was named "Untitled (Questions)" by Barbara Kruger. The artwork shows an American flag. But instead of white stripes, there are white bolded words that spell out questions. Some of the questions of the painting. Some of the questions on the painting are Who is free choose, Who is healed, Who salutes Longest etc. Also were the stars belong there is a statement in white letters that say Look For The Moment When Pride Becomes Contempt. I believe the meaning of this artwork is that you should not make the government or anyone else take away your freedom. Also if you feel the law is affecting your rights, you should never stop fighting for your freedom.
The last piece of art that caught my eye was "The Forty Part Motet" by Janet Cardiff. Reason why it caught my eye is because it was in a huge room and in side the room there, was forty black speakers with music coming out of them. The interesting thing about this display is that each speaker in the room had a different person singing through it. Also to get the full effect of the display there was a bench that was in the center of the speakers were u can hear all of the speakers at once.I though this piece was different and very interesting compared to the other artworks.
As you can see the attacks on 9/11 have affected the American culture in many ways than one. All the work I have seen this day had to do something with 9/11. The pieces of art work I chose were the most eye popping to me and made me have a different perspective on 9/11 through an artist's eyes.

Post #1: Good Art/Bad Art
Personally I believe that good art or bad art depends on the person who you are asking the question to. But for myself I think good art is something that you can relate too. For example if a Yankee fan saw an artwork about the Yankees he will appreciate it more than someone who lives in Boston who is a Red Sox fan. Also I believe good art is something that moves you when you see it for the first time. For example I believe if you see a good piece of artwork you wont forget that easily and it will be stuck in your head.
Bad art I believe is something that does not look good. For example art that does not have good color coordination and bad shading. Another example of bad art is when an artist just splat paint on and empty canvas and call it art. Bad art also can be something you look at and it does not move you. It can be an art work that is dull or just does not make sense to you. This is my opinion on good art and bad art and I do believe good/bad art is judged on the person you are asking.
