Chelsea Galleries Reaction

After going to the four galleries I seen many work that attracted and some not to much. The artist that I was not to interested in collecting was Rashaad Newsome: Herald at Marlborough Gallery. I liked his idea of making art that was inspired by Hip Hop. But I felt he focused too much on the jewelry and bling factor a little too much. For example in the collage BO$$ED UP, 2011, it has rapper YG on top of a bunch of jewelry and rims. Also Black and Yellow, 2011 is basically has a bunch of shiny watches which is on top of a black background. The art work that I would be interested in was Untitled # 168 by Simen Johan. It basically is a rhino sitting in the middle of what looks like a desert. The piece look very vivid to me and the piece looks very clear interesting to me. The other artwork I will get is Untitled # 155, 2010. It is a huge bird that is in a forest, standing on a tree branch with a frog in its mouth. This piece attracted me because I had a parrot when I was younger and it had brought back memories. Also the artwork as a whole looks really cool and the trees in the back look really calming in contrast to the bird with the frog in it's mouth. Illustrate a Story

Basically i tried to put together a collage similar to what Frank Curre saw when that ship was attacked. With bodies in the water and the ship of fire. Also I made the collage in black and white because photographs in the 40's were in black and white.

Brooklyn Museum Reaction

            After going to the Brooklyn museum, I was stunned with all the interesting artwork that was on display. Many of the artworks were large paintings while others were creative sculptures. Also after going to the "Youth and Beauty: Art of the American Twenties", "Sanford Biggers:Sweet Funk-An Introspective", and "Timothy Greenfield Sanders:The Latino List" there was one specific artwork that popped out at me the most.                     From the  "Sanford Biggers:Sweet Funk-An Introspective" exhibit the art work that I found the most interesting was Lottus. From far I thought it was a huge dream catcher. But when I got closer it was more than that. The earpiece was a white lottus flower covered with glass and surrounded by a steel ring. Inside the lottus' pedals were the inside of an 18th century slave ships. In the artpiece it showed how the slaves were placed on the ship.                  George Marvin and his Daughter Edith was the artpiece that popped out at me from the "Youth and Beauty: Art of the American Twenties". This artpiece basically was George Marvin and his daughter Edith sitting at a table  with  a bowl of oranges on it. There is also a rifle and a hat in the background. The reason this artpiece caught my interest because the artpiece looks like someone took a photograph of the two with Edith knowing and her father not knowing. I think the meaning of this artwork is that families in the 20's were close to each another and the fathers were very protective of their families also.                     "Timothy Greenfield Sanders:The Latino List"  was a very stunning exhibit. The exhibit was a bunch of huge photographs of famous Latino people who have changed the world. The photograph  I chose talk about was the one of rapper Pitbull because I listen to some of his music. This photograph of Pitbull was him standing up looking at the photographer with his hands out. In the photo he is wearing a black shirt with jeans. In the photograph you can also see his tattoos on his arms very clearly.                     After going to all three of these exhibits at the Brooklyn museum, these were the three artworks that popped out to me the most.
